NEWS, EVENTS AND INSPIRATION FROM THE WORLD OF MIYABI!

Newsletter 21. 5. 2025

Dear guests, dear friends!

Great thanks to all of you who celebrated our 30th anniversary of Miyabi with us, who have been thinking of us and who have been supporting us all along because you love Miyabi and because you love Japan. I was overjoyed – your goodwill was sincere and cheerful and communicative. Yes, it is good that Miyabi is. I am sending pictures of the party, which was attended by perhaps 150 people. Wonderful! But the celebration doesn’t end with one day. I am preparing more meetings and performances to celebrate the founding of Miyabi. We will also welcome friends from Japan. In June, the Omotesenke tea master Mr. Soju Nakazawa, whom you already know from last year, will come. Together we will prepare ochakai on June 14 at the Zen House. The day is Saturday. Yes, Miyabi is more than just a restaurant. It’s a place where friendships is born. Keep an eye on our website and be sure to come!

We promised Wagyu in our last letter. So here it is. Read my newest article that we just put on our website. It’s called Wagyu – the experience is worth the money. I am convinced of this and I hope you will be convinced too and come to our Wagyu days which we will offer at Miyabi this Friday, Saturday and Sunday – 23 May from 4pm, 24 and 25 May all day. This time we have Japanese wagyu from Furano area on Hokkaido island and Czech wagyu from Mr. Müller from his family farm near Pardubice. We will prepare steaks, hamburgers, kakuni meat, soup and sushi. Sushi is supposed to be a surprise.

Have you heard of the Fringe Festival? It is similar to the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival and is now in its 24th year in Prague. The programme starts next week on Monday 26 May. I am informing about it not only so that you can choose a concert or performance from the festival, but also because thanks to the festival we will be able to welcome the artist Riko Sugama and her Japanese friends back to our Zen House on Tuesday 27 May at 6pm. If you admire Japanese Noh masks, you have a unique opportunity to see at least one up close. I will prepare tea and sweets as the last time. It’s going to be a treat! I’m looking forward to it! You can reserve the last available seats HERE!

We also invite you to the Embassy Day, which will take place on Saturday 7 June at Kulaťák market in Dejvice. The Embassy of Japan will once again have its booths there to introduce Japanese culture to those interested. We are honored that Miyabi will be part of it. In cooperation with Mr. Müller’s farm we will prepare wagyu steaks and hamburgers, wagyu soup, wagyu and other sushi, wagashi sweets and other Japanese delicacies. Let your friends know and come to the Kulaťák market! Support Japan!

When celebrating, it is nice to add joyful gestures. One such Japanese one is when you raise your hands, open your fingers and wiggle your palms while saying “Ohoshisama kira kira”. You know that? Children in Japanese kindergartens repeat it with a twinkle in their eyes after their teachers, especially during the summer holiday of Tanabata, but it makes adults happy too. Try – Ohoshisama kira kira. It’s kind of like Little Stars, Twinkle Twinkle Twinkle. You’ll make people around you happy with the lovely Ohoshisama kira kira. And that’s the point – to please each other!

Your Miyabi Darja!
