NEWSLETTER MIYABI - 24.7.2025

Dear guests, dear friends!

Do you celebrate Tanabata? “Tanabata translates as ‘the seventh day of the seventh month’ and is one of the five Japanese Sekku festivals. I love them all because they bring us together. Sekku comes from the word Sekkyo, which means ‘sharing food.'” These are the opening sentences of an article I recently wrote for the Miyabi website. Read it. It’s great that we can celebrate Tanabata, the festival of stars and wishes, all summer long. For example, we celebrated last Saturday in the castle park in Dolní Počernice, and it was very nice there. A lot of people came, and there were many food stalls and cultural stalls. Of course, Miyabi was there too. It was wonderful to greet so many people we know because we love Japan. Many participants wore light summer yukatas. I did too. It was wonderful! The next similar event organized by the Czech-Japanese Society will be on September 6 and 7, this time in cooperation with the botanical garden in Průhonice, so be sure to come again! There will also be a performance by Japanese artist Einojo Senju, whom you already know from his performance at Miyabi. I am writing this because he is already here. He has just arrived in Prague and will be staying at our home for the whole summer. Take the opportunity to get to know him and his art. Become friends! You can even become his students.

In cooperation with JICC, the performance will take place tomorrow, Thursday, July 24, at the center on Hellichova Street, and then on Sunday, July 27, in cooperation with ČJS, there will be a several-hour program at the Dance Center on Wenceslas Square. There are still places available, and you can apply here. After the program, we will move to Miyabi for a small afterparty starting at 6:30 p.m., and everyone who wants to meet Einojo and his student Honoka in person and possibly arrange individual lessons in shamisen or classical Japanese dance is invited. In addition to dance, Ms. Honoka is also studying tea ceremony and will be in the Czech Republic until August 10 to participate in another Senju school program in conjunction with ČJS. You can find out everything you need to know in the flyer I am attaching or on the ČJS website. I highly recommend it!

When you come on Sunday evening—this Sunday—you will also have the opportunity to meet Ms. Aiko Ito, who will soon be joining the Miyabi team. She specializes in wagashi. She will surely introduce you to some beautiful pieces of Japanese sweets. I am preparing a program where you will be able to regularly enjoy authentic wagashi and tea, and I will send you the information as soon as we have everything arranged.

For this weekend, from the 25th to the 27th, we have once again prepared a special wagyu offer for you as a small summer wagyu omatsuri. You have already tasted the steaks, which does not mean that you cannot come back for more, but what is new is the wagyu roast beef with Maldon salt. If you want to try this delicacy served on summer soumen noodles in a slightly sour, chilled homemade dashi sauce, similar to what we served on Tanabata, chef Jára Štěpánek will prepare it for you. It’s summer, soumen is refreshing, and good roast beef to go with it—what more could you want? So don’t hesitate!

In addition, you can hang your wishes in the wind with us. Tanabata wishes. Perhaps about love and meeting someone. You probably already know that on Tanabata, people choose different colored pieces of paper for their wishes. My advice is not to rely on just one color, but to think colorfully! It’s summer, the time of fireworks, the time when things happen between heaven and earth. So let your Tanabata holiday wishes be bold, illuminated by the sun, and bound by friendship!

Yours, Miyabi Darja
